Solution

In moving from city to city, we either pick up an extra prime or discard one. The numbers of prime divisors of 99=3×3×1199 = 3 \times 3 \times 11 and 100=2×2×5×5100 = 2 \times 2 \times 5 \times 5 are 33 and 44 respectively, and there are no common divisors. To change from one lot to the other, we need to make 77 moves. The answer is (D).
