Problem 11 of 16

For how many integers 1≤n≤1001 \le n \le 100 is nnn^n a perfect square?

Answer choices

Show solution

Solution

If nn is even, then nnn^n is a perfect square. So all 5050 even choices work.

If nn is odd, then nnn^n is a perfect square exactly when nn is a perfect square. Thus, only n∈{12,32,52,72,92}n \in \{1^2, 3^2, 5^2, 7^2, 9^2\} work in the odd case. Therefore there are 5555 integers having the required property. The answer is (C).
