2017/18 AHSMC Part 1 Problem 1

Problem 1 of 16

Answer choices

Show solution

Solution

Peppa initially has xx apples and x2\dfrac{x}{2} pears, then 4(x2−50)=x4\bigl(\dfrac{x}{2} - 50\bigr) = x and thus x=200x = 200. The answer is (C).
